Study visit on Improving Plantain Productivity:
the transfer of technology from Caribbean and Latin America to Africa
Dominican Republic/Costa Rica
April 23-28
Participants and implementation

Twelve participants including scientists, extension workers and farmers from five MUSACO countries will visit the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Two scientists from Jamaica will also join the study visit.

The Regional Coordinator of MUSALAC, the host network, will join the group from Africa in the Dominican Republic from his base in Costa Rica. Local Musa experts will lead the group in visits to research centres, farms, and government departments to exchange information with scientists, farmers, and extension agents. During the farm visits the group will observe first hand how farmers apply the technologies, and markets and trading centres will be visited to observe how fruits are handled, transported and stored. Three working days will be spent in the Dominican Republic, plus 2 working days in Costa Rica.
