Incentive measures for the sustainable use and conservation of agrobiodiversity
Lusaka, Zambia
11 - 14 September 2001

The objectives of the workshop 'Incentive Measures for Sustainable Use and Conservation of Agrobiodiversity', to be held on 11-14 September 2001 in Lusaka, Zambia, are to identify the role of, conditions for and forms of incentive measures to enhance the sustainable use and conservation of agrobiodiversity and their operationalisation in the SADC region.

For the workshop, agrobiodiversity is defined as the genetic diversity of crops (including local vegetables and fruit trees) and farm animals that is managed and used by farmer-households. The importance of the system environment in which the farmer-household manages the agrobiodiversity is emphasised. A concrete action plan with responsibilities and possible funding sources for the SADC region should be the final outcome.
