How to apply for a GenARDIS grant

After the ICT Observatory meeting in 2002 - on Gender and Agriculture in the Information Society - CTA, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the International Institute of Communication and Development (IICD) established a grants fund. Known as GenARDIS (which stands for 'Gender, Agriculture and Rural Development in the Information Society'), its aim is to support efforts to address gender and ICT issues in agricultural and rural development in ACP countries. CTA, IDRC and IICD each pledged €15,000. This sum was to be distributed among nine winners as non-renewable grants of €5,000 each.

In 2003 there were more than 360 nominations for the grants. Among these were research programmes, small projects, broadcast programmes, theatre productions - all of them focusing on the use of ICTs by or for rural women.

The judges were drawn from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the International Service for National Agricultural research (ISNAR), the Panos Institute, IDRC, IICD and CTA. The nine winners showed particular ingenuity in using ICTs to meet the needs of rural women and their families.

If you would like to receive future announcements about GenARDIS grants, print out the GenARDIS application form, fill it in and send to CTA at our address in The Netherlands.
