Publishing, book purchase and distribution are the principal means used by CTA's Publications and Distribution Department (PDD) to meet the demand for information from ACP countries.

The objectives of the publishing programme are:

  • improving the availability of information for development by providing publications;
  • improving the access to such information through co-publication with ACP and EU publishers;
  • providing information to CTA's partners concerning the products and services available from the Centre;
  • promoting awareness of the assistance available from other organizations;
  • encouraging networking among CTA's partners.

CTA's information bulletins Spore, in English and French, and Esporo, in Portuguese, are published every two months. These 16-page bulletins carry feature articles, news items, descriptions of information sources - organisations, printed and electronic publications -, letters from readers and invited contributions (viewpoint).

The Centre publishes the proceedings of its seminars and commissions and publishes various studies, reports, bibliographies and directories. Materials of immediate relevance and practical utility to specific readerships are published in the Working Document series, so as to be available without the delays inherent in the formal publication process.

  Through its co-publications programme, CTA publishes and distributes books on tropical agriculture and rural development with various partners. It also supports the translation of books into English, French and Portuguese (see Linguistic considerations). Proposals for co-publications are welcome from both EU and ACP organisations; a co-publications committee reviews all proposals monthly.

All CTA's publications are distributed by the Publications Distribution Service (PDS), which operates on a subscription basis. Book distribution is free-of-charge for eligible organisations and persons residing in the ACP countries.
