We at RSDA would like to take this opportunity to describe our activities in the coming final phase of the Sustainable Land Use Program (2002-2004). The main objective of our work in the coming years is to reinforce the knowledge base which you have accumulated in the past through training, excursions and extension visists. It is hoped that these will strenghen the effectiveness of groups andassociations so that together they can stand on their own and rely on one another to support the continuation andself-improvement of sustainable land use techniques.
We will continue to conduct meetings to assess how to best serve members' needs and interests within the framework of this final phase
We will facilitate training in various topics to solidify and update the sustainable land use activities practiced, so that one can have confidence and competency in agronimic planting, post harvest, fertilizers, pestr management, farm economics and small stock etc.
We work to organize and strenghen groups so that together they can acquire and manage funds to purchase their own inputs such as seeds, implements etc, and put them in contact with sources of those inputs
RSDA will help to organise and strenghen groups so that together members can acquire and manage funds to purchasetheir own inputs such as seeds, implements etc., andwill put them in contact with other groups in the country
RSDA will organise exchange visits to suppliers and other farmers' groups in the country
Through continued contact with members, they are encouraged to think and act for themselves, be able to pla and overcome obstacles -- achieve goals using own well-developed personal resources and experience.Members are encouraged to innovate and experiment with improved techniques beyond what they have been taught by RSDA. Who knows? one may discover a better way of producing food -- like J.J. Machobane did!!
There will be a continuation of Agric Shows, Seed Fairs and competitions which will be increasingly under the direction of farmers groups
RSDA will also try to put members in contact with other organizations which may be able to aid in terms of agricultural inputs, extension, financing and marketing -- so that members may be able to explore their options for assistance outside that of RSDA.
Q: Will RSDA continue to provide material inputs, such as cement bags and koekoes?
A:No. In order to achieve the original goal of self reliance, it is important that members begin to look for ways and means with which to obtain necessary inputs, and RSDA will assist them in sourcing materials.
Q: Will RSDA continue to provide trees
A:Yes! with emphasis on fruit trees and high a survival rate, RSDA will continue to provide trees during the final phase
Q: Will RSDA continue to provide inputs through their input stores in Mafeteng and Phanmong?
A: Currently the Input Stores are closed so that they can be restructured. RSDA is looking into possibilities for re-opening the Input Stores in the future. However, the Hammer Mill in Phamong will continue to operate and the Phamong Input Store will continue to sell maize.
