Background:
ESRI was established in 1991, mainly to conduct and coordinate research activities in the different socio-economic aspects in Sudan.
Objectives:
- To formulate socio-economic research policies and establish their priorities in line with the socio-economic development plants envisaged by the state.
- To coordinate socio-economic research work carried out by the different units and departments of Higher Education and research institutions; central governments; state corporations and organizations; as well as other semi-official bodies to ensure efficient and effective utilization of available resources.
- To disseminate socio-economic research results at the national, regional and international levels via effective channels, such as publications, conferences, seminars, workshops…etc.
- To encourage and promote socio-economic research by means of the following:
- Provision of academic and/or any other form of technical support for socio-economic researchers, nation wide.
- To promote postgraduate studies and researches in field of socio-economics .
- To encourage the publication of socio-economic research.
- To create and establish links with national, regional and international organizations and organs of relevance to socio-economic research work.
