The Agricultural Extension Section |
This section has the mandate to advise, educate and inform farmers on all new
adapted technologies in the agricultural field, as well as of current affairs of the ministry.
It is sub-divided into 2 main units :
The Agricultural Extension Field Unit |
The Unit has 6 Extension Agents who are responsible for the 6 farming regions of Seychelles.
These Agents have the following responsibilities:
- Routine extension visits to farmers to discuss technical issues and offer advice on a one-to-one basis.
- Organize demonstrations and on-farm trials for the farmers.
- Execute regular in-house training sessions for extension field staff
- Attend regular research/extension technical exchange visits
- Carry out visits with other sections of MAMR for land allocation, registration or loan purposes.
This unit has 3 major activities:
- The administration and management of the Ministry's Documentation Centre (AGRIDOC)
- The production of audio visual programs and assistance to field staff in utilizing
this material in the field.
- The production of written publications and their distribution to the farming community
and the general public.
The collection of information for the different publications is ongoing.
