DRD Zonal Research Centers

Zonal Research Centres

Between October 1994 and mid-January 1995, the DRD organized zonal priority setting workshops in all the seven zones. Participants to these workshops included all stakeholders/beneficiaries (farmers, extension officers, representatives of agro-industries, NGOs, and research scientists, etc) in the different zones. The primary exercise aimed at establishing few, well-focused and cost effective priority research programmes, whose results can have immediate impact on farm productivity.

The prioritized zonal research programmes have been costed to gauge the comparative advantage of a particular zone undertaking certain research activities vis a vis another zone.

The validation/harmonization exercise, carried on 5 June 1995, involved senior zonal research and extension officers, policy makers, and representatives of donor agencies and the private sector.
