Organisational Structure of the Directorate
The DRD is headed by the Director of Research and Development accountable to the Permanent Secretary, MoAC. The DRD is assisted by three assistant directors incharge of technical sections at the head office, namely, Crop Research, Livestock Research, and Special Programmes. In addition, there are five support units, namely, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Information and Documentation; Accounts; Procurement; and Administration. The latter two units are supportive for DRD but they are the respective main departments at the MoAC.
The Division's ORGANOGRAM will look like this chart
DRD accomplishes its tasks through a network of 26 research centres/stations located in seven agroecological zones namely:
Each zone comprises a lead station (zonal research centre, ZRC) and associated stations. The zones are headed by zonal research officers who are answerable to the Director at the Headquarters. The zonal centres are responsible for all aspects of research with special emphasis on location specific adaptive research, which requires close collaboration between commodity research teams, the farming systems teams and extension personnel working in the zone. Technically, the zonal research officers are assisted by zonal research coordinators who ensure that zonal as well as national priorities are implemented accordingly. Apart from ZRCs the Animal Disease Research Institute (ADRI) based in Temeke - Dar es Salaam has a national mandate for carrying out specific research programmes on animal diseases.
