DRD Headquarters Operations


Divisional Headquarter's Responsibilities

The DRD headquarters is responsible for the following activities:

Formulation of Appropriate Agricultural Research Policies
This is done in collaboration with other departments of the MAC and other allied ministries such as Planning Commission, Treasury, the Central Establishment.

The Permanent Secretary, MAC has the overall responsibility and is assisted by the Director for Research and Development to ensure that appropriate agricultural research policies and guidelines are formulated and implemented accordingly.

The National Agricultural Research Advisory council also plays a role in these endeavours, particularly the linkage with other allied research institutions in the country.

During the implementation of the Tanzania Agricultural Research Programme phase II (TARP II), the main task is to re-align and update various sections of the agricultural research policy in order to fit into the envisaged changes in the institutional and organisational structures, particularly the empowerment of the zonal research management teams.

Overall Co-ordination of the National Agricultural Research Activities
Co-ordination is done through the steering commitee, although the zones are empowered to undertake the entire zonal research agenda, however at the same time DRD headquarters has the overall responsibility of co-ordinating research activities nationwide. The senior research managers at DRD headquarters have the overall duty of ensuring that agricultural research in the entire DRD research network is carried out efficiently and effectively according to the national and zonal priorities. They have also to ensure that appropriate research results are translated in practical packages for farming community in response to their felt needs.

To be effective in these endeavours, they have to work very closely with the zonal management teams as well as the extension service and other stakeholders.
