APRU aims at improving the coordination of agricultural policy research at Bunda College with Government, private and academic institutions in Malawi, and also aims at enhancing the leadership role of Bunda College in agricultural policy formulation and analysis.

Recently, the Agricultural Policy Research Unit has been earmarked by the European Union to house the Crop Estimates and Price Monitoring project on a continuous basis (i.e. establishing a data bank for crop estimates and price monitoring) This development is likely to complement well with the proposed establishment of the Industrial Data bank and Environmental monitoring.

The Unit also held an international symposium on promotion of cassava with respect to production and processing of various industrial cassava products in industries. The Symposium was funded by USAID and carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the Southern Africa Root Research Network (SARRNET). The symposium drew participants from the international and local community with an interest in industrial related technology development for cassava production and processing
