Strengthening the seafood processing / exporting
sector to improve trading opportunities
CDE, Madang, Papua New Guinea
13-14 May 2003
Participants

Participants to the seminar were selected from active members of the Fishing Industries and National Competent Authorities of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

National and regional training institutions were also represented, as were members of the donor community.

In total, 46 participants attended the seminar, inclusive of organisers (CDE and CTA) and Resource Specialists. Papua New Guinea was represented by twenty-three members of the fishing industry and one from National Seafood Competent Authority. Solomon Islands had two fishing industry representatives and one from the National Competent Authority, Vanuatu was represented by two members of the fishing industry and one from the inspection authority.

Participation was expected to be higher from both Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. However, few fishing industry representatives from these two countries accepted the seminar invitation. A shortfall in the numbers of participants from Solomons and Vanuatu was made up by inviting more members of the fishing industry from Papua New Guinea.

Gillett Preston and Associates were hired by CDE / CTA to plan, organise and conduct the seminar. A team of experts were assembled to run the seminar. They were:

  • Mr Steve Roberts (Team Leader), Seafood Processing, HACCP and Auditing Consultant,
  • Gillett Preston and Associates, New Caledonia
  • Ms Cushla Hogarth, Solutions in Seafood, New Zealand
  • Mr Robert Stone, The Gourmet Food Company, Fiji

For the list of participants and background information on each of the experts see the Seminar summary report 540 kb
