EU/ACP Fisheries Agreements
towards a greater sustainability
ACP Secretariat, Brussels, Belgium
7-9th April 2003
Organisation

The organisers recognise the inadequate information flow and the lack of information on the ongoing issues and debates. The EU is preparing a new round of bilateral agreements with a view to securing access on the basis of sustainable and responsible fishing. In this timely context, the workshop discussed topics such as the reduction and reform of harmful subsidies, the long-term recovery plans for over-exploitation of fish stocks, instalment of fish bans on certain species, fisheries management, and fair and sustainable fisheries agreements with ACP countries.

Format
2 days meeting in English and French - Plenary sessions with main presentations followed by discussions and brainstorming sessions.

  • Sharing experience
  • Case studies
  • Identifying key issues for the negotiations
  • ACP policies and development objectives
  • Common EU policies and their effects on ACP
  • Brainstorming session: What can be done?
