Role of Information Tools in Food and Nutrition Security in ACP Countries

CTA Seminar 2004
Maputo, Mozambique
8 - 12 November 2004
Introduction

There is now a broad consensus on the definition of food security as a concept and on the goals for assuring food security, with availability and access to food, and assuring nutrition security, where secure access to food is coupled with adequate health and care. The focus of CTA is on information and communication management (ICM) as it relates to agricultural and rural development. Thus, the seminar will focus on ICM issues as they relate to food and nutrition security.

The Maputo seminar will focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, with participation from the Caribbean and Pacific region. It is planned to hold regional seminars on food and nutrition security in these two regions later, because the food security problems in these regions are markedly different from those in Africa. The emphasis in these regional seminars will thus be necessarily different.

Major Themes of the Seminar:

  • Insights and Challenges in Food and Nutrition Security;
  • Information Needs for Improved Decision Making about Food and Nutrition Security;
  • Information and Communication Tools in Food and Nutrition Security.
