The Cotonou AgreementThe ACP-EU Partnership Agreement, signed in Cotonou on 23 June 2000, is usually referred to simply as the Cotonou Agreement. Its predecessor was the Lomé Convention, first signed in 1975 (in Lomé, Togo) and then renewed in 1980, 1985, 1991 and 1996. Like its predecessor, the Cotonou Agreement provides the framework under which CTA operates. The overriding goals of the Agreement are to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development. Our role in helping to achieve these goals is spelt out in Annex III of the Agreement. The full Cotonou Agreement was published as a Special Issue of The Courier (ACP-EU) in September 2000. It is A4 size and 192 pages long. You can obtain a copy by writing to: Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States OR Directorate-General for Development European Commission The part of the Agreement that relates specifically to CTA is Annex III. A version is also available on-line here.
